After 1k to 10k years of dark ages, the process will begin again but this time without fossil fuel. After 200k years, CO2 and Temp are back to pre-industrial. Around 1m years, Homo Secundus appears. And so it goes.

This will result in a higher peak and an inevitable collapse When the systems hit the resource and pollution constraints. We'll then use that ingenuity to keep some of the tribes going as long as possible. Leading to small pockets of really quite civilised societies even as the population, systems and economies radically contract.

A Doomer Manifesto - Long term We will burn up all the remaining fossil fuel until the probable 1TtC of accessible fossil carbon is all gone. The only question is how long it takes. We are resilient, inventive, innovative, have lots of ingenuity, and resources to deal with problems so as to adapt. We'll use that ingenuity to keep Business As Usual going as long as possible. Leading to the complete consumption of all available fossil fuels.

I think it's time the USA built a giant gold statue of Trump in Florida to match the giant statue of Nixon in California. The Colossus of Yorba Linda meets The Colossus of Mar-A-Lago. From Sea to Shining Sea.

Not now, ticks that can make you allergic to red meat. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/jun/29/lone-star-ticks-increase-climate-crisis They're in the front line of the Vegan militant wing. Particularly ironic in the USA.

In SE England today it's going to be stupid hot, high humidity, with no wind. Oh, joy! Still. At least it's not SW Spain and Portugal. I'm melting in 32C here, I can't even imagine 45C in Seville. It was brutal at 35C when I was there last.

This stuff used to be reasonably easy with lots of alternate parts, with everything symmetrical. With only a couple of bottom bracket designs. On my previous Genesis Tour De Fer 10 from 2016, it was Shimano Acera kit, Octalink bottom bracket and a 48t+guard was dead easy to find on Amazon for £25. When did it get so hard? And why? I shouldn't have to swap the entire bottom end just to add 2 teeth to the sprocket! On a £1300 bike.

Down the rabbit hole. The crankset appears to be from Pro-Wheel. The cheapest, square taper, BCD 110-80, steel chainrings, 46t-30t matched up with Shimano Cues 4000-3020 mechs. Probably an RPL-421 "Performance-Road" item. Pro-Wheel do make a matching chainguard. They also make a 48T-32T chainring set with guard. But they sell to OEMs only. AFAIK, nobody makes a BCD 110-80, wide-narrow, 48t with a chainguard or chainguard holes. Hardly anyone makes a 48t sprocket.

Best guess for June daily averages in the records. Global Air Temp 2nd, Sea temp 3rd, Arctic Ice Extent 1st (lowest). It'll be official in about a week ~ 7-July #climate

Strictly LoFi House is not dead. It's just not pretty enough to be an actress. Here's a relaxing hour long mix. I love this stuff. I wish there was more of it. And it wasn't stuck in 2016.

Pretty much everything about bicycles is like this. Design led by Marketing MBAs, implemented by engineers who think you can push things with string. Into ever smaller market niches. To be bought by cosplay wannabes with more money than sense. And then stolen by thieving, feral low-lifes. I just want a Utility Vehicle to do all the shopping, get some exercise, ride when I'm drunk and see the countryside. Too much to ask?

For Bicycle fans, Shimano, I hate you! For years the range got more and more complex. But at least you could buy spares and updates for the low end Acera, Altus and Tourney ranges. Now they've "rationalised" it into CUES. So at least you can swap MTB-Road mechs & levers. I want a 48t sprocket with a chain guard and everything is. 40t, 46t or 50t. And all the mount holes are asymmetric, Shimano specific and different so nothing generic fits. GAH!

When it rains (hah!), Thames Water also pollute the waterways that we and Affinity rely on with sewage overflow from all their sewage treatment works. Affinity and Thames are statutory consultees to all major developments. Their comments are always the same boiler plate. Follow the rules, talk to us about excess, and service supply will be fine. A promise to the future that will inevitably come due.

A thought in progress. Here in Hertfordshire our water is provided by Affinity and bills go to them. Runoff and foul water is taken away by Thames Water. All the development means Affinity are over-extracting from the rivers, aquifers and water table. But Thames Water also extract water for London from the Lea catchment. Why should London take our water? Apart from "because they can and have done for centuries".

Every time I went to Glasto, I went by motorcycle. It was the only way to get through the solid traffic that stretched from Glasto to Basingstoke. Avoid driving anywhere within 100 miles of Shepton Mallet today.

#Cocktail - Quaker 25ml Rye, 25ml Cognac, 25ml Lemon, 25ml Raspberry Syrup, lemon twist. I'm still struggling to find a good Raspberry syrup. Asda do a raspberry liqueur 17%. It's a good taste but not sweet at all. So this recipe needs a little dbl syrup as well.

Why does privatisation of essential pubic infrastructure and natural monopolies lead to a worse service that costs more for both government and customers. Possibly missing are the initial discount, asset sell-off, consolidation and leveraged buyout, rescue package stages. With particular relevance to the UK.
