Scobleizer : Does your intranet suck? : Here's how to rate if your intranet sucks

BOMB THEM WITH BUTTER! And chuck in a hand cranked radio as well.

From the "Blogging the past desk. Wired 2.10: Meme, Counter-meme : and memetic engineering Oct 1994!!

In Defense of Freedom : On September 20, 2001 at the National Press Club in Washington, more than 150 organizations, 300 law professors, and 40 computer scientists expressed support for the following declaration: IN DEFENSE OF FREEDOM oh yes Indeedy. Just shame they didn't say "World" instead of "United States".

The Register : The missing piece from the MS internal memo to it's salespersons about Gartner's recommendation to ditch IIS. It's a list of vulnerabilities in rival products So clearly, Apache/PHP/MySQL is a major threat to MS' world domination. Oh and old software releases have bugs in them, but I guess you knew that. As someone said, "The MS IIS patch rate is approaching 1 per day, which is simply unacceptable". Just say no to MS servers (and email clients). You know it makes sense.

NIMDA - Closes down Fairfax - Fairfax County has fallen victim to the worst computer virus in its history, forcing it to shut down its Web site until each of the county's 9,000 computers and 300 servers has been screened. [Lockergnome Bytes] I wonder if there's a case for demanding that government offices ban Microsoft operating systems from their offices on the grounds of national security.

I've been moping around for two weeks now convinced that Irony, Sarcasm and even Humour were dead. How was I going to cope? How could I get through the day without at least one cyncial remark? Where was the grim humour and the "Need Another Seven Astronauts" jokes when we needed them? Neet To Know and The Chaser tried hard but didn't quite hit the spot. I'm sure you've seen it by now as it's ripping to the top of the Blogdex charts, but The Onion have excelled themselves. The best piece of satire is surely the report on God's press conference. You need to imagine James Garner's voice reading it in a tone of grandmotherly exasperation. What part of "Thou shalt not kill", don't you get, Man? Could I have made it any clearer?

Plastic | A Town in Georgia has started posting the ten commandments in public buildings. : and an empty frame 'for those who believe in nothing.'. For years, I've been a Pope (infallible, right?) in the Church of Eris (Goddess left us a chaotic mess and it's our job to cope with it) but becoming a minister in the First Church of the Empty Frame sounds like a great idea. happy

The Blog Twinning Project : bringing people together, whether they like it or not Luvly!

Microsoft advertises in bad taste? - n/a [Geeknews] Unbelievably bad taste advert with two twoer blocks leaning as if they're falling down. Hello!?!

The Register : Ditch Microsoft IIS now, says Gartner Gosh! Does this mean that .asp will be ported to an Apache Module?

Slashdot | Philip Zimmermann and 'Guilt' Over PGP : We who live in the D.C. area are very familiar with the Post's penchant for "manufacturing" stories where none exist. Mr. Zimmerman unfortunately was the party on the receiving end of the editorial foul play in this particular case. Iif you caught the reports and links to the Washington Post article that Phil regretted releasing PGP into the wild, you need to read his repost on /. Remember. Use encryption while you can.

The Cause of Terrorism : Belief causes terrorism. There you have it put to its shortest form. A most interesting article written entirely in e-Prime. I wish a few more people would understand e-Prime and make use of it. It's a most useful tool.

The Register : The [US/UK] government may be biding its time with its promised attack on Al Qaeda, but it's not wasting a split second going to war with the Bill of Rights, in a frenzy of bureaucratic and legislative measures aimed at exploiting the tragedy of 11 September for the benefit of the law-enforcement, national security and intelligence establishments.

Reason magazine : I've long opposed American intervention abroad.

It's all about Oil money : Another view. What will happen is that the Bush clique will visit tens if not scores of Panamas upon the earth. We will proceed to kill 3,000 innocents for every guilty terrorist arrested, just like in Panama. it's long, but this one's definitely worth reading.
