A year ago, http://google.com/latitude was retired and personal location duties were transferred to G+
A year later it's still severely lacking. I can't be bothered to list out all the ways it's currently broken. But what amazes me is that Google can be so good with maps and yet seems so uninterested in making location work better in G+
So here's the feature request. Fix and enhance location! And especially for people using the desktop interface on a laptop or chromebook.
You can't find places, navigation is faulty an glitchy like no other, you can't manually set your work location (you're forced to select one of the few places suggested by google), stories (from pics) are broken because of wrong locations all the time. Also you can't check in anywhere for this very reason... and so on and on....
I'm afraid it's just a matter of time Open Streets Maps surpasses Gmaps.
Please google, if you need ideas, just ask away! we're eager to help.
My biggest beef is g+, maps, and search etc need to be totally redone Linking between apps. Hangouts 2major problems can't attach more than 1attatchment per msg. If I want to send soneone 10 photos it takes 10 msgs, also you ate extremely limited with what files you can attach music files are nearly impossible pic and vids ok. Any other doc you might attach in a mms or email is a pain and it's google causing it

As of August 13, currentLocation is no longer listed as a valid field for the People API. https://developers.google.com/+/api/latest/people
Which perhaps explains why checkin and so on no longer change the "Lives in " to "Currently in " on your profile. It seems Google has simply dropped (more or less) real time location tracking.
