This week's cocktail is the outlaw Scottish version of the Manhatten, The Rob Roy.
45ml of good scotch
20ml of red Vermouth
Dash of bitters
Stirred over ice and served in a martini glass with a twist of lemon.

It's softer and less aggressive than the Manhatten. There are variations of no bitters, orange bitters and dash of Cointreau, or half and half red and dry vermouth. Go easy on the bitters as the softer scotch can't take as heavy a hand as Bourbon. One story is that it's the forerunner of the Manhatten.
