Feels like G+ turned into Digg this morning. Several threads I was watching turned into religious flame wars both literally and figuratively.[1]
This suggests the original poster (and everyone else) needs more and better moderation tools. So given that Notifications is the place we probably read comments on our posts, it's a bit puzzling that the controls on hiding, removing and reporting comments only appear when you view a single post full screen.
[1]I think we need a new Godwin's Law. "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of it becoming an argument about god or US politics approaches 1 (100%)." I used to have a similar one. "Regardless of original topic, all forums eventually host a gun thread."20-48 Musley Ln, Ware, Hertfordshire SG12 7
If god is not a registered user, people should not speak behind his/her/other back -- therefore turning into simply a matter of etiquette.
That is Richard's Law. And I hereby establish it as G+ Law, effective herein, immediately. There will be no discussion. Thank you all for your cooperation!
Establishing my laws? Did you take that seriously? Did you really think I would have the audacity to say "I am creating a law and it shall now stand!"? ... You really thought that? .. because I would laughed off this site from here to China and back and to the moon, where your tides are controlled by on your profile photos, if anyone truly took that seriously. ... So I will pretend you are joking.. How's that for grace?
Another Vietnam: Hmm. Vietnam was a proxy war between the USA and USSR yet played out in someone else local backyard, with the 2 superpowers being the suppliers of the 2 smaller powers. It ended up achieving nothing at all but a tremendous loss of life.... I spend time in Vietnam about 7 years ago, the south still hates the north, but the north won, and call Saigon HoChi Minh City, thoigh all the locals never ever call it that and just ignore all the signage and still call it Saigon.
Hue in center of country was completely destroyed, homes flooded and lost to sea due to napalm and tanks and denuding of the land, such that when the torrential rains came there were no roots to hold back the mud.... In Hanoi, in the North, there is rampant bribery in the government and deals to open plants in the south for a Toyota plant require under the table massive payouts tat go to government officials.
I spoke to many many South Vietnamese 20-35 year olds who can (A) never leave the country legally and emigrate to the USA, EVER, and (B) this is enforced by recordkeeping at Passport Control that if your Father or Grandfather fought for the South you are never permitted to leave Vietnam, and if you even speak of such things, you get a bullet in the head.
So, which parts of "another Vietnam" do you mean?
