Yesterday's and today's exercise in yak shaving was upgrading a laptop with a bigger hard disk and Vista upgraded to Windows 7. It's gone pretty well, but it still amazes me how much work is needed to make each iteration of MS operating system "*not rubbish*". Somewhat ironically, the most annoying part of the exercise was trying to persuade Linux GTParted to expand the main partition without copying the entire existing set of data. Essential tools. Linux SystemRescue on a USB thumb drive. ddrescue to image the disk across. GTParted to adjust all the partitions. http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/ and TweakUI to make WIndows 7 behave.
