Thoughts on Apple's Ping. Doesn't anyone else see something horribly wrong about a social network that only exists inside an iPhone app or a proprietary desktop app. Where's the web interface? Where's the RSS/Atom feeds? Where's the JSON/XML API? Wired is busy writing articles about the death of the web. When major players are creating iPhone/Desktop app only interfaces with no web interface perhaps they have a point. Meanwhile my iTunes 10 update was 75Mb, took forever, required a reboot and I'm now waiting for iTunes to re-scan my library. When that's done I've still got to do an iPod sync while being careful not to let iTunes screw up my library or screw up my jail broken Touch. And all this before I can find out just how rubbish Ping is compared with Last.FM. Sheesh! [Edited to add, later] Finally got to the point where I had a Ping Profile in iTunes. First Search "Massive Attack", second search "Bob Marley" "Your Search had no results". Hello???!!?? I tell them I like Dance, Electronic and Reggae and they recommend Lady Gaga, YoYo Ma, U2 and Katy Perry. WTF?
