Should we be scared? Or should we just go "meh" because 99% of email is already spam and Gmail is so good at hiding it?

I've gotten exactly one spam that was new... from someone using the link on my Google Profile :) l.o.l.
I don't see much spam in Gmail. 15-30 per month. I'd see that much in a day at yahoo. 18 May 2010 18 May 2010

We'll have to see how this pans out. Google made some design decisions on Buzz and Profiles that link your ID directly to your gmail email address. This is pretty much unlike any other social media systems that hide your email address more or less effectively. So Buzz becomes a rich source of valid email addresses. I don't know if this is actually being used yet. The article describes a proof of concept harvester rather than reporting of actual problems. But like I said, GMail is incredibly good at spam control so even if it was used, we might never see it. 18 May 2010 18 May 2010

My email is all over the internet and I don't get any more spam than people who don't put their email address on the internet (like my wife). Gmail is great at filtering out spam. 18 May 2010 18 May 2010
