Hmmm. Neither Foursquare nor Gowalla can feed check-ins into Google Buzz. Good thing, bad thing?

I wonder if the reason that the Location apps like Foursquare and Gowalla have such terrible web sites is that the developers all use Macs+Safari and Safari doesn't support Gears or HTML5 geo-location? This morning's irritation. I spot a foursquare checkin on the iPod Touch. It contains a link which I want to open on the laptop. So I go to the foursquare web site AND THERE'S NO FRIENDS FEED. ARG! WHY! I mean really, WTF? Is this what internet programming has come to that we have iPhone only applications? 3 Apr 2010 3 Apr 2010

Good thing IMO. Why would we want to see them? 3 Apr 2010 3 Apr 2010

And yet I see no ads on the iPhone and none on the web site due to firefox and adblock.

Sorry guys but I have a personal crusade going against location apps:-
- That are USA only
- That ignore the web UI. "laptops are portable too" and location works fine in the desktop Firefox and Chrome
- That have no RSS/Atom of checkins (containing georss)

It's not so much that we want to see them in Buzz. But that there's no public RSS[1] so they don't get fed into any other aggregator either. They both have built in function to post to Twitter and Facebook automatically when you checkin. But with RSS/Atom (and pubsubhub) it would be much more open and we could choose to move the data where we liked rather than where they decided to build links. Open-ness for the win.

[1] Foursquare has private RSS feeds with no auto-discovery on the profile page. Gowalla has no feeds at all. Come on guys this is Web 2.0 101.
